Partners

DEBBIE A. GRAY, CPA

Audit Partner

Debbie received her Bachelor of Accountancy degree from New Mexico State University in December 1980. She began work with Kriegel/Gray/Shaw & Co., P.C. in June 1981 and was admitted as a partner in 1987.

Debbie's many years of experience providing auditing and attestation services have gained her substantial expertise in governmental, nonprofit, federal government contractors, as well as other financial statement audits, reviews and compilations. She also has experience in tax preparation and related matters.

Debbie is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New Mexico Society of CPA's, having served on its board and quality control committees, and is a member and past president of the Dona Ana Chapter of CPA's.

KEN SHAW, CPA, CFP ®

Tax Partner

Ken received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting from Eastern New Mexico University in May 1979. After ten years of public accounting experience with other firms, he joined Kriegel/Gray/Shaw & Co., P.C. in June 1989 and was admitted as a partner in 1993.

His primary areas of practice include tax preparation and planning, estate planning and wealth management. He works with individuals, small businesses, retirement plans, estates and trusts.

Ken is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) practitioner. He also holds the Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) designation from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC®) designation from the College for Financial Planning.

He serves as President of the Mesilla Valley Hospice board of directors and treasurer of the Southern New Mexico Estate Planning Council. He is also a member of the Rio Grande Rotary Club.

Ken is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Personal Financial Planning Section of the AICPA, the Financial Planning Association, the New Mexico Society of CPA's, the Dona Ana Chapter of CPA's.

TEAM MEMBERS

GALE PATTON

Senior Accountant

Gale began working with Kriegel/Gray/Shaw & Co., P.C. in October 1979. She received her Bachelor of Accountancy degree from New Mexico State University.

Her experience includes New Mexico state governmental A-133 single audits, audits of nonprofit organizations and university's and tribal governmental audits; as well as other audits, compilations, and reviews of financial statements. She also prepares and reviews tax returns for our individual, corporate, and partnership clients.

KRISTI GRANADOS, CPA

Senior Accountant

Kristi began working with Kriegel/Gray/Shaw & Co., P.C. in January 2008 after a 25-year career in governmental accounting and university teaching. Her primary responsibilities are tax preparation and planning for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts and estates.

She received a Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting emphasis) from Idaho State University in 1981 and a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from New Mexico State University in 1995. She has also completed all coursework toward a Masters of Accountancy at NMSU.

Kristi has lived in Las Cruces for the past 25 years and been active in many community organizations. She has served as President of the Dona Ana Chapter of CPA’s, Chairman of the Board of the Wesley Foundation of NMSU/DACC, and Secretary/Treasurer of the Las Cruces Community Theatre.

She is currently a member of the Audit Committee for Morningstar United Methodist Church, a member of the Rotary Club of Las Cruces, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Wesley Foundation of NMSU/DACC.

Kristi is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New Mexico Society of CPA’s, and the Dona Ana Chapter of CPA’s.

BRENDA M. SHANNON, MAcc, CPA, CIA

Professional Staff

Brenda has more than 25 years of varied accounting and auditing experience. She received her Bachelor of Accountancy and Master of Accountancy degrees from New Mexico University in the 1980's and holds professional designations as a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Internal Auditor.

Brenda first worked for Kriegel/Gray/Shaw & Co., P.C. from 1985 to 1988 in audit and tax, before going to work for New Mexico State University until her retirement in 2010. She was Chief Audit Executive of the NMSU System for the last 12 years of her employment there, and also taught accounting classes and performed a variety of professional financial and cost accounting duties. She returned to Kriegel/Gray/Shaw & Co., P.C. to work part-time during tax season in 1997, and currently since 2011.

Brenda is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and New Mexico Society of CPAs. She received the 2003 Outstanding Member in Government award from the Society and served on its board of Directors and Education Scholarship Committee. She is past President and Secretary/Treasurer of the Dona Ana Chapter of CPAs, and is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

JOY LARA

Accounting Services / IT Manager

Joy began working with Kriegel/Gray/Shaw & Co., P.C. in May 1972.

She graduated from New Mexico Junior College with an Associate's degree in May 1972.

Joy is in charge of our Accounting Services department. She directs and oversees the computer operations related to all of the clients accounting and payroll related services.

She also does basic network and computer maintenance.

REBECCA POTT

Professional Staff

Rebecca began work with Kriegel/Gray/Shaw & Co., P.C., in July 2014. She received a Masters of Accountancy from New Mexico State University in May 2014.

Rebecca has one year of auditing experience with current experience in New Mexico Office of the State Auditor agency audits. Rebecca also has income tax experience including business as well as individual income taxes.

LEONARDO RAMIREZ

Professional Staff

Leo began work with Kriegel/Gray/Shaw & Co., P.C., in January, 2016. In 2015, he received a Bachelor of Arts: Business Administration – Accounting from Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky.

Leo has one year of auditing experience with current experience in New Mexico Office of the State Auditor agency audits. Leo also has income tax experience including business as well as individual income taxes.

KATHY SHANNON

Bookkeeper

Kathy began working with Kriegel/Gray/Shaw & Co., P.C. in August 2012. She has a background in Commercial Banking working as a Teller, Customer Service Representative, New Accounts, and Loan Department Assistant. Kathy has over 20 years experience working in a church office as the Financial Secretary and a local non-profit agency. Kathy provides payroll services and monthly/quarterly bookkeeping for several of the firm’s clients. She is a past board member for the local chapter National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.

SERENA GLENN

Bookkeeper

Serena began working with Kriegel/Gray/Shaw & Co., P.C. in August 2015. In 2014, she received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting from Columbia College in Missouri.

She has a background of working in commercial banking as a Teller and CSR. Serena provides payroll and accounts payable services as well as monthly/quarterly bookkeeping for the firm's clients.

CJ VALDES

Bookkeeper

CJ began working with Kriegel/Gray/Shaw & Co., P.C. in January 2016. He has worked in the bookkeeping /accounting field for more than 10 years for various types of businesses.

CJ provides payroll and monthly/quarterly bookkeeping services for several of the firm’s clients.
